UConn basketball gets around loss of scholarships

When the NCAA came down hard on UConn basketball and reduced the number of scholarships available because of compliance issues and a poor academic performance rating it did not deter the basketball program from figuring out a way to get around the issue. Top recruit Andre Drummond simply became a walk-on, paying his own way to play on the team.

DeMaurice Smith collects his bonus from the NFLPA

NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith will collect a $1 million bonus from the union based on his performance in getting the players back in action without missing a regular season game. Pro Football Talk reports that there is still a question if Smith will be back as the union leader after this coming March, despite receiving this performance bonus from the union.

NCAA reinstates UNC receiver Dwight Jones

The NCAA has reinstated University of North Carolina wide receiver Dwight Jones for the team's bowl game . Jones was ruled ineligible earlier in the week for using his name and likeness to advertise a New Year's Eve party.
