A settlement in the NBA; Termination time
November 28, 2011
NBA labor deal
2011 will be remembered as the year of labor strife in the pro sports world. The NFL lockout of 2011 garnered tremendous coverage throughout the spring and summer until the time a deal was reached. The NBA lockout failed to generate the same level of media coverage as the NFL lockout, until actual games were canceled over the past few weeks. While the NFL lost only one preseason game, the NBA lost many regular season games. Now with the NBA on the verge of settling the pending lawsuits with the players and then being able to put a new CBA in place, there just may be an NBA season after all.

Several college football coaches will be taking a look at the "termination without cause" clause in their contracts over the next few days. The "termination without cause" clause in most cases simply means you are fired because you didn't win enough games. Just a few of the coaches who lost their jobs this past weekend for not winning are Ron Zook, Dennis Erickson and Turner Gill.
For a more in depth look at the "termination without cause" clause, take a look at this excellent piece by Martin Greenberg and Thom Park
