Quinn in for Kessler at NBA talks; British Tax Law

Quinn takes over for Kessler in NBA talks

NBAPA executive director Billy Hunter has decided to bring in attorney Jim Quinn to act as the players' lead counsel in the continuing NBA labor settlement talks. Quinn will replace Jeffrey Kessler. Kessler has received much criticism from NBA Commissioner David Stern, which is expected. But it now seems that his own team feels there is a better chance of a settlement without Kessler in charge.

Will a change in tax laws persuade athletes to compete in Britain

A landmark 2006 tax law ruling against Andre Agassi and in favor of Britain's tax authority has made that country an unpopular place with many international athletes. The 2006 ruling forced Agassi to pay tax on money paid to him by Nike and Head because  he endorsed those products at Wimbledon.

Athletes such as Usain Bolt and Rafael Nadal have avoided competing in Britain because of the Agassi ruling. Now there is talk of having an exemption included in the next British budget statement in March. Olympic athletes competing in the 2012 games have already been granted the exemption. As of now the exemption is only granted on a case by case basis.
