Court of Arbitration for Sport begins Contador hearing

Alberto Contador went before the Court of Arbitration for Sport this week to argue that tainted meat caused his positive drug test at the 2010 Tour de France. If Contador's contaminated meat defense fails, Contador will likely have his 2010 Tour de France titled vacated, along with his 2011 Giro d'Italia victory. A three-man arbitration panel is hearing the matter, with the hearing scheduled to take four days. A ruling is expected to be issued sometime in January.

Serenity now for Major League Baseball and the MLBPA - CBA agreement in place

Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig and MLBPA Executive Director Michael Weiner announced that the former national pastime will have five more years of labor peace. The highlight of the new CBA will of course be the testing of big league players for human growth hormone. Additionally, the new agreement will put a ceiling on signing bonuses for players selected in the June amateur draft. Elite agent Scott Boras was critical of the draft signing bonus restraints, saying top athletes who could play other sports will now be more likely to play football or basketball, instead of baseball.
