West Virginia takes Big East to court
In an effort to join the Big 12 before the start of the 2012 football season West Virginia University has filed a lawsuit in a West Virginia circuit court. West Virginia claims the Big East breached its fiduciary duty to maintain a competitive balance between football and non-football playing schools. The lawsuit asks the court to find that the Big East bylaws are invalid. Under Big East bylaws West Virginia would not be able to join the Big 12 conference until 2014 because of a Big East requirement that 27 months notice be given before a school can exit the conference.
West Virgina clearly has a home court advantage in this matter, filing the case in a circuit court in Monongalia County, West Virginia and asking for a jury trial.

Sabathia remains a Yankee
Yankee ace CC Sabathia agreed to what amounts to a contract extension with the New York Yankees. Sabathia had an opt out clause in his contract that would have allowed him to terminate the final four years of his deal with the Yankees and become a free agent. Sabathia decided to accept an additional year on his current deal at $25 million for the 2016 season and forego a chance to test the free agent market this off season.
