Hardship waiver in NCAA
The NCAA has granted a hardship waiver to former University of Arizona basketball player LaMont "Mo Mo" Jones to play this season at Iona University. Jones was the starting point guard at Arizona last season when the school won the Pac-10 championship and reached the elite eight. Jones requested the waiver to be with his ailing grandmother. Ordinarily when a player transfers from one Division I school to another he is required to sit out one season. The hardship waiver has come under criticism from some coaches who view it as a device to help a basketball program instead of an effort by the NCAA to help a student athlete. View the following link from a few years back that discusses both sides of the hardship waiver.

No NBA season a real possibility
NBA owners may do whatever it takes to change the financial structure of the game. Many owners appear willing to make the sacrifice of cancelling the entire season to get the changes they desire. Yahoo! Sports looks at the differences between the NFL and NBA lockouts; and why NBA small-market owners appear likely to sit out the year to get the changes they feel are needed in the business.
