McCourts reach settlement; Cohen gets involved

Divorce settlement for McCourts

Ordinarily a divorce settlement would not be Sports Law news, but when a divorce settlement impacts the ongoing Los Angeles Dodgers' bankruptcy case, it is big Sports Law news. Frank and Jamie McCourt have reached a divorce settlement, in which Jamie McCourt will receive $130,000 million and give up her interest in the Dodgers. This will mean that Jamie McCourt will now file a motion supporting the sale of the Dodgers' broadcasting rights, which would allow Frank McCourt to try and sell the Dodgers' media rights and possibly take the team out of bankruptcy. However, Major League Baseball is fighting Frank McCourt's sale of the media rights and attempting to file a reorganization plan that calls for McCourt to sell the team.

Cohen was involved in the NFL and NFLPA talks early on without success, however Cohen is now involved in the NBA talks at a much more critical juncture timewise. Based on the fact that regular season games have already been cancelled, Cohen should be able to use his powers of persuasion to get the sides closer to an agreement.

Cohen to the rescue?
