State of North Carolina and NCAA battle; Stern talks about more cancelled games

North Carolina Secretary of State and NCAA clash
The office of the Secretary of State of North Carolina (The Secretary of State is responsible for licensing and regulating sports agents in the state) and the NCAA are at odds over the release of documents that relate to the continuing investigation of agent misconduct at the University of North Carolina. Because the NCAA has refused to turn over key documents to the North Carolina Secretary of State, the Secretary of State's office is seeking an order from a Wake County judge asking the NCAA to turn over information needed for the investigation. A hearing for this matter has been set for November 28.
The most interesting aspect of the petition from the Secretary of State is the statement that "The NCAA petitioned for the Uniform Athlete Agents Act but fails to comply with its mandates". Of course the state of North Carolina adopted the Uniform Athlete Agents Act in 2003 and now when it needs the help of the NCAA to help enforce the act, the NCAA has refused to provide the needed information. This matter once again illustrates a lack of coordination in the regulation of agents; and until the NFLPA, the NCAA, the states and the universities all get together on the same page the same problems will continue to occur.
