Michigan to get $4.7 million to open 2012 season in Dallas against Alabama

The University of Michigan football team will open the 2012 season against Alabama in Dallas at Cowboys Stadium. This will be the first time a Michigan football team has ever played a regular season game at a neutral site.

Though $4.7 million would be far more than most teams would make for playing an away game against a college football power, it would seem Michigan could make a lot more money playing a home game against any other team. In Ann Arbor, Michigan would make money from ticket sales, concessions and parking, while playing in Dallas, Michigan must cover travel expenses and all other incidentals out of the $4.7 million. Michigan Athletic Director David Brandon claims this game will give Michigan tremendous exposure. Yet, Michigan already has tremendous exposure, the Michigan program is hardly a Rutgers, Rice or even a Boise State, all schools that have far less national coverage than Michigan.
