NHL CBA; PGA TV Contracts
September 6, 2011
Another CBA that will expire soon
For the last few years all eyes were focused on the struggle to negotiate a new CBA for the NFL. The issues that stood in the way of a new CBA were finally resolved back in July. The NBA labor struggle now takes center stage. Will David Stern and Billy Hunter be able to avoid a cancelation of the season? That question will be answered shortly.
Next up on the labor front will be the NHL. Remember Don Fehr from the Major League Baseball Players Association, now he is the Executive Director of the NHLPA. Fehr was brought on with the idea of strengthening the union as it got ready to do battle over a new CBA. So take heart labor law fans, even if the NBA and NBAPA arrive at a settlement in the near term (which is unlikely) you will soon have the NHL labor issues to occupy your time.
Television contracts in place for PGA
The PGA Tour announced last week that contracts had been signed with both CBS and NBC that will take care of broadcast rights for the golf tour for the next ten years. The PGA Tour has also been able to sign ten new title sponsors of tournaments as well.
