Pearl speaks out on NCAA punishment
DETERRENT - A thing that discourages or is intended to discourage someone from some act.
Former Tennessee basketball coach Bruce Pearl claims the NCAA made an example out of him by imposing severe penalties that will force other coaches to better understand what will happen if they don't cooperate with an NCAA investigation. The NCAA issued a three-year show-cause penalty against Pearl for lying to the NCAA enforcement staff during their investigation into recruiting violations at Tennessee. The three-year show -cause penalty will keep Pearl from recruiting during the next three years. Because of the penalties it will be virtually impossible for Pearl to land another college coaching job.

Miami internal investigation
As many as twelve University of Miami football players could be declared ineligible based on their association with booster Nevin Shapiro. Under NCAA rules once a player has been declared ineligible, a reinstatement process begins through the NCAA. Last season Cam Newton went through this process to quickly regain his eligibility at Auburn without missing a game.
