NFL allows Pryor in supplemental draft with a catch

The NFL will allow Terrelle Pryor to be eligible for the supplemental draft now scheduled for this Monday. There was one proviso attached to the decision to allow Pryor into the draft. Seemingly going outside of the NFL's scope of authority, the league suspended Pryor for the first five regular season games.

With respect to Pryor's problems at The Ohio State University the NFL stated that Pryor, ''made decisions that undermine the integrity of the eligibility rules for the NFL draft''.

The question that needs to be asked is why was Pryor singled out? Michael  McAdoo another player eligible for the supplemental draft, was ruled ineligible to play at the University of North Carolina for various off the field issues. Yet, no action has been taken against McAdoo. Even going back to the draft in April, numerous players were selected who had been suspended from their colleges teams for many agent related reasons, yet no mention of any type of suspension by the NFL as ever come up.

Even if Pryor is on a 53 man roster, there is zero chance he  would actually be playing quarterback in any of the first five games. The suspension will cost Pryor five game checks, however Pryor will still be allowed to be in team meetings during the suspension.

NFL gets hit with another concussion lawsuit

Former NFL quarterback Jim McMahon is one of seven retired players filing a class-action lawsuit against the NFL based on the concussion related injuries the players incurred while in the league.

MLB draft signing deadline

Monday night was the deadline for Major League clubs to reach deals with their draft picks or else see them head on to college baseball. With the uproar over the problems in Coral Gables, SLT is a little late in getting back to MLB signings. Players coming out of high school who are drafted usually have tough decisions to make with respect to heading to college, or signing with the team that drafted them. Sometimes the decision comes down to the player receiving more than the slot money for their round in the draft. Here is a link that provides a good example of the decision making process.

HGH 50 game suspension handed out by MLB

Mike Jacobs, who had been in the minor leagues this season, received a 50 game suspension for testing positive for HGH under the MLB minor league testing program. Jacobs was subsequently released by the Colorado Rockies. Jacobs had been in the big leagues from 2005-2010.
