NFL CBA ratified, new league year begins and new CBA brings HGH testing; Carl Edwards contract extension

August 5, 2011

NFL CBA ratified by players

The new NFL CBA has been ratified by the players and the new league year was finally able to begin on Thursday. With the beginning of the new  league year, veteran players who signed contracts after July 26 were finally able to practice with their teams. Today NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith will sign the new CBA at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. This may not have  the same historical significance of Grant accepting the surrender of Lee in April 1865, but the signing of the CBA will bring labor peace to the NFL for ten years.

With the new CBA will testing for HGH happen in the NFL this season?

All signs point to testing for human growth hormone to happen in the NFL this season, if the NFL and NFLPA can agree on the details of how the program will be implemented. The NFL would become the first US pro sports league to have testing for HGH.

NASCAR news

Carl Edwards has signed a contract extension with Roush Fenway Racing. Joe Gibbs Racing was in strong contention to sign Edwards, who would have been a racing free agent at the end of the current NASCAR season. For background on Roush and his contract talks, check out this link from May of this year.
