August 4, 2011

NFL CBA still not finalized - as both sides look to wrap up remaining issues

Contrary to popular belief just because NFL training camps are back in full swing and player transactions are again taking place, the  NFL CBA has still not been completed. Several issues remain open for discussion, among them are drug testing, benefits and player discipline policy. The new league year is scheduled to begin today at 4 pm Eastern time. Today will also mark the first day players who have signed new contracts will be able to practice with their teams.

Salary arbitration time in NHL

Baseball salary arbitration usually garners all the attention, but the NHL also allows for arbitration hearings for veteran players. The Nashville Predators defenseman Shea Weber, won the first such hearing this summer, as an arbitrator awarded Weber a one year $7.5 million deal.
