Did UNC have just cause? Sooner basketball violations; Talk to me

For cause, or not for cause: that is the question

With the firing of Butch Davis by the University of North Carolina, the question that needs to be asked is if Davis was fired for just cause. The University may have a difficult time saying Davis was fired for just cause when he was kept around for a year and the school waited until nine days before preseason camp to terminate him. This becomes a $2.7 million dollar question at UNC. Indications are that UNC plans to honor the contract, and will pay him an undisclosed amount. But can you blame the University if they used the just cause theory and refused to pay Davis. Sure, there would probably be a law suit and that would bring more unwanted publicity to the school in Chapel Hill, but it could save a couple millon dollars.

AD Baddour steps down at UNC

President Harry Truman's most notable saying was "the buck stops here" and if there is any truth behind this famous saying, then North Carolina Athletic Director Dick Baddour must carry a heavy burden. One day after the firing of football coach Butch Davis, Baddour is stepping down.
