July 13, 2011

Mike Leach back in the news

It has been a while since we have had any Mike Leach news. Next week the former Texas Tech football coach will have a book coming out called Swing Your Sword, and of course he gets into details about his firing from Texas Tech in 2009. Leach sued Texas Tech for wrongful termination, but a Texas appeals court agreed with Texas Tech's sovereign immunity defense and disallowed Leach's claim for monetary damages. Leach is hopeful that the Texas Supreme Court will review the appellate court's ruling. Texas Tech's response to Leach's request for the Texas Supreme Court to review the matter is due today.

Clemens' jury is set

After four days of questioning by U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton, and lawyers for both sides, a jury of ten women and two men will decide if Roger Clemens lied to Congress when he said he never used steroids. Opening arguments will get started today.

ESPN goes to court to get release of Tressel emails

ESPN has gone before the Ohio Supreme Court seeking the release of documents from the Ohio State University, that the network says should be made public. Specifically, ESPN is looking to get access to emails between Jim Tressel and a mentor of former Buckeye quarterback Terrelle Pryor. The university is claiming the documents are protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
