Jeter contracts

With Derek Jeter reaching a major milestone this weekend with his 3,000th hit, the following article takes a look back at the history of Jeter's contract negotiations with the Yankees. Did you know that Jeter received a $800,000. signing bonus in 1992 from the Yankees after being the 6th player selected in the MLB  draft. The five players selected ahead of Jeter were Phil Nevin, Paul Shuey, B.J. Wallace, Jeff Hammonds and Chad Mottola.

NFL-NFLPA talks continue this week

Some of the major issues standing in the way of a new CBA appear to be nearly resolved. The issue of division of league revenue, which has been the main reason for the lockout, is close to being wrapped-up.

However, a rookie wage scale and free agency rules continue to be debated. Owners are looking to take back gains the NFLPA made in free agency that date back to 1993. Will the owners be successful in this?  DeMaurice Smith will have the burden of trying to avoid having the NFL gain take backs on veteran free agency. No doubt this will be a major factor in how DeMaurice Smith will be evaluated once a settlement is finally in place. What happens over the next few weeks will either make or break the DeMaurice Smith regime at the NFLPA.
