Sixty years ago - was Casey Stengel an agent?
It was more than sixty years ago that Mickey Mantle made his Major League debut with the New York Yankees. It goes without saying that it was a time far removed from the professional sports world of today. What you may find interesting is the way Mantle went about negotiating his first Major League contract. Mantle did not have an agent, the closest he had to an agent was manager Casey Stengel. NBA players don't offer counter proposal
With current NBA CBA set to expire in days, the NBA players did not come up with any new economic offer for the owners. The players felt that such a large gap exists with the owners, that it made no sense to take more dollars off the table at this point in time. Despite the lack of a proposal from the players, union leader Billy Hunter said there has been enough good dialogue between the two sides that a lockout may be unnecessary.
NFL players continue to be optimistic about a settlement
NFL players were updated about the progress being made on a new CBA last week. Buffalo Bill player rep George Wilson spoke of the meaningful discussions that have been going on the last few weeks. With the first of July just around the corner, real progress should be made and a deal finally reached. Maybe.
