Embattled Tennessee AD resigns
Mike Hamilton, the athletic director at the University of Tennessee has resigned. Hamilton's eight year tenure became extremely controversial over the last few years, as football coach Lane Kiffin and basketball coach Bruce Pearl kept making headlines for for all the wrong reasons.
It was Hamilton who hired Kiffin after the 2008 season, only to see Kiffin leave after only one year. During that one year Kiffin kept the Vols under heavy NCAA scrutiny. Hamilton also negotiated a substandard buy-out clause that made it easy for Kiffin to bolt Knoxville.
Hamilton's hiring of basketball coach Bruce Pearl started out on a high note. But this past season, Bruce Pearl's recruiting transgressions led to Pearl being suspended. Pearl was then fired after the completion of the season.
