NBAPA files unfair labor charge against NBA
 
Ernie Banks loved baseball so much he used to say "let's play two" throughout his MLB career. Now, with the NFL lockout and litigation currently going strong, the National Basketball Players Association is following suit by filing an unfair labor charge against the league on Tuesday. The NBAPA hopes this is a pre-emptive strike to avoid a lockout  that the union feels the owners want.
 
This is a great time for students of sports law to get the chance to enjoy high profile negotiations  and litigation in two major sports simultaneously. Somewhere out there is probably a sports lawyer saying "let's litigate two".

NCAA tells UConn men's basketball to put more emphasis on the "student" in student-athlete
 
The UConn men's basketball team was one several BCS teams to receive word from the NCAA that their student-athletes need to do a better job in the classroom. Football teams at Maryland and Louisville, as well as basketball teams at Georgia Tech and  LSU received word that their programs need to shape up as well. Because of UConn's poor Academic Progress Report (APR) the program will lose two scholarships for the upcoming 2011-12 season

Family of beaten Giants fan sues Dodgers and McCourt
 
The family of a San Francisco Giants fan who was beaten while attending the opening day game between the Giants and the Dodgers at Dodgers Stadium, has filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles Dodgers and owner Frank McCourt.
