Justice Department on NCAA's case

The Justice Department wants to know why the NCAA does not have a playoff system in place for football. In a letter to NCAA President Mark Emmert, Christine Varney of the Justice Department asks why football does not have a playoff system like other sports. Additionally, Varney asks what steps the NCAA has taken to create a playoff system. Usually it's the NCAA that is investigating a school, but for now the NCAA seems to have the tables turned on it.

More trouble for McCourt

Major League Baseball claims the Los Angeles Dodgers can't meet the end of May payroll.

NFL draft - The waiting game

The NFL draft is over, but what is always a tradition in the days following the draft did not occur this year. The transactions page of every sports section usually is full of the names of hundreds of college players who have signed free agent contracts with NFL clubs. But not this year. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune has a good piece on this year's lack of undrafted player signings. The majority of undrafted players will just have to wait around and see what happens. A few players may sign with the UFL, but for the majority it becomes a waiting game.
