NHL takes $25 million from city of Glendale
The NHL exercised its option to take $25 million placed in escrow by the city of Glendale to cover loses incurred by the NHL after the league took over the Phoenix Coyotes. The Coyotes were bought out of bankruptcy in September of 2009 by the NHL, with the hope that a buyer would be found for the team. As of today the proposed sale of the team has been delayed by a possible lawsuit by the Goldwater Institute, a conservative watchdog group.
PAC 10 has new TV contracts
The escalating market for college sports on television has allowed the PAC 10 to enter into new TV deals with both Fox and ESPN. The deals which will be formally announced today will be for 12 years, at close to $3 billion.
NCAA examines recruiting issues at Central Florida
The recruitment of several highly ranked player in both basketball and football has the NCAA examining recruiting activities at Central Florida University.
Lockout hearing set for June 3
The 8th U.S, Circuit Court of Appeals has set a hearing date of June 3 to hear arguments over the current lockout in the NFL. This is the appeals schedule: The NFL's opening brief is
due May 9. The players' response brief must be filed by May 20. May 26 the league's reply to the response is due.
