April 15, 2011

Former Auburn football player to meet with NCAA

Chaz Ramsey, who recently appeared on HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel describing how he received money while a football player at Auburn, will meet with NCAA officials to discuss the matter.

Ramsey turned down a request by Auburn representatives to attend the meeting, and will meet with the NCAA sans any Auburn official.

Nine hours of mediation in Minnesota

It was back to the mediation table in Minneapolis for the NFL and NFLPA. Present for the union (or do you say trade association?) were DeMaurice Smith, as well as players Ben Leber, Mike Vrabel and former player Carl Eller who is also a plaintiff in a suit representing retired players. Commissioner Roger Goodell was joined by several owners including Robert Kraft and Jerry Richardson. Not much news came out of the meeting other than it lasting for nine hours.

and a look back...

SLT loves to take a look back into the past, so we can get a better understanding of today's issues. With that in mind, here's a chance to learn about the NFL strike of 1982 when names like Ed Garvey and Jack Donlan were in the forefront. If you don't know these names, make sure to read this article from 1982, courtesy of Sports Illustrated.
