Rays threw away their money on Ramirez; Smith added as attorney for players

SLT asked the right question
It was just February 2, a little more than two months ago, that we asked the question below. We found out half of the answer on Friday.
Money well spent or just spending money?
With contracts completed for veterans Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon, are the Tampa Bay Rays wisely bringing in veterans who will provide clutch play and veteran leadership, or are the Rays throwing away money on washed-up players? This is what makes these two contracts interesting. The answer to this question will be known within the next several months. The contracts call for Damon to receive $5.25 million with a bonus tied into Rays' attendance figures, while Ramirez is scheduled to get $2 million.
DeMaurice Smith added as attorney for the players
With the decertification of the NFLPA, the former union, now a trade association, needed to officially add executive director DeMaurice Smith to it's line-up in Minneapolis in case any mediation took place under Judge Susan Nelson's supervision.
