Fiesta Bowl out?
The BCS has set up a task force to determine if the Fiesta Bowl should remain a part of the BCS series of bowl games and the National Championship game. BCS chief Bill Hancock told the AP in a phone interview that the BCS, "will not be associated with this kind of behavior".
IMG College
On Monday we looked at Learfield Sports and its reach in college sports dealing with sponsorships, tv, radio and multimedia rights. Learfield's competition in the business is none other than IMG College. If you even have the slightest interest in sports law you should be familiar with IMG. To view IMG College's website, click it here.
Last year IMG College Sports bought out ISP Sports which was IMG College and Learfield Sports main competitor. Essentially, Learfield and IMG College control the college game when it comes to multimedia rights, sponsorship, and tv and radio.
Here is an interesting piece from last year examining what may be a conflict of interest for IMG College as it gains more and more power in the college sports world.
Dez Bryant Lawsuit
Take a look at this article that discusses Dallas Cowboy wide receiver Dez Bryant being sued for over $850,000. for items he purchased while still in college. Curiously enough, the article mentions another wide receiver by the name of Michael Crabtree, formerly of Texas Tech and now with the 49ers, who received the same type of line of credit, but repaid everything. What is the common denominator between the two players? How about agent Eugene Parker? It will be interesting to find out if all these items were purchased after the players had extinguished their college eligibility. What do you think?
OSU's Tressel apologizes
While Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel is serving what will now be a
five game suspension, assistant coach Luke Fickell will be taking Tressel's
place on the sidelines. Tressel, who considers himself a student of history,
either did not read much on the Nixon administration, or just did not learn
any lessons from it.
Kart driver tested positive for banned substance at age 12
Nikethamide was detected in Igor Walilko's urine, and the FIA gave the now 13 year-old a two year ban from racing. WADA has accepted the FIA ruling. Now Walilko's attorneys are appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
