Use caution in Alabama; Taurasi cleared; No deal for Pujols

Don't mess with Alabama

We can just imagine the conversation going something like this between four men in an Alabama correctional facility.

First man - Hey, what are you guys in for?
Second man - I got upset with my neighbor and accidentally killed him.
Third man - Arson. I torched a business for the insurance.
First man - I didn't realize she was only 15.
Then the first man asks a fourth man, what are you in for?
Fourth man -  I'm in for illegally recruiting an Alabama football player.

This could really be happening as agent and former NFL player Ray Savage was arrested and jailed for violating Alabama's agent laws. You can bet other agents will now think twice before failing to follow agent laws in Alabama.

Taurasi gets good news

Basketball player Diana Taurasi has been cleared of using the stimulant modafinal. Taurasi had been suspended from the Turkish club she was playing for last month after a positive test came back.  The Turkish Basketball Federation said the lab that came back with the initial result retracted it after hearing Taurasi's statements in her defense. Additionally, Taurasi is now able to play in the Olympics in London in 2012.

Pujols and Cardinals don't even get close

Unlike Joe Mauer and the Minnesota Twins last year during spring training, there will be no deal happening between Albert Pujols and the St. Louis Cardinals in the immediate future. As you may recall, Mauer gave the Twins a deadline to reach a deal by the end of spring training and it was accomplished. Pujols and the Cardinals set a deadline of reaching a deal before the opening of spring training, and in this case it did not get done.
