Musial continues to help Cardinals; NFL - NFLPA news; Gamecock allowed to enter draft

February 15, 2011

Respect for Stan Musial gives Cardinals - Pujols an extra day to work out deal.

Albert Pujols and his agent Dan Lozano's self imposed deadline to get a deal done by the beginning of spring training has been extended because of an award that is to be presented to another St. Louis Cardinal superstar - Stan Musial. Out of respect for the great Musial, the club did not want to detract from Musial receiving the Presidential Medal of Honor in Washington. Instead of the deadline being today, it will be extended to noon on Wednesday. So, Stan Musial, who had always come through at the plate for the Cardinals for so many decades, has come through one  more time for the team, giving the Cardinals one more day to get a deal done.

The battle escalates

The skirmishing that has been going one for more than a year between the NFL and NFLPA has turned into a full blown battle. On Monday the NFL filed an unfair labor practice charge against the NFLPA.  The NFL is claiming the NFLPA is refusing to negotiate in good faith. It almost seems like the NFL beat the NFLPA to the punch, since the NFLPA will certainly claim the same of the NFL. If you enjoy animosity in negotiations, the next several months will have a lot to offer you.

Former Gamecock football player allowed to enter NFL draft

Weslye Saunders, a University of South Carolina tight end who missed the entire 2010 season, partially for his involvement with agents, has been deemed eligible to enter the upcoming NFL draft. Saunders was initially ruled to be  ineligible for the draft, for failing to file the proper paperwork  However, his attorney petitioned the league claiming that Saunders should not be viewed as an underclassmen.
