Knicks illegal draft workouts result in $200,000.00 fine
The New York Knicks were fined $200,000.00 by the NBA Thursday for conducting illegal predraft workouts. The workouts occurred in May of 2007 and again in May of 2010. The NBA also fined east coast scout Rodney Heard $20,000.00 for staging the workouts. NBA policy states that teams cannot have contact with draft eligible players before the NBA predraft camp which is held in May.
McNamee's civil suit against Clemens: update
Roger Clemens' former trainer Brian McNamee received mixed results from a New York judge in his defamation case against Clemens. Both sides claimed victory in the matter. The bottom line is that the defamation case won't move forward until after the Clemens criminal trial in Washington is decided. But McNamee still has a civil case against Clemens which will be heard sometime down the road.
Interest in Iowa football players' medical records costs three hospital employees their jobs
Next week SLT will take a closer look at the University of Iowa football
off season conditioning program that recently sent 13 Hawkeye players to the hospital. In the meantime, three hospital employees were fired for viewing these players' medical records. In the state of Iowa, where there are no pro teams, Iowa football players are treated like the state's pro football team and there is always great interest in Hawkeye football. Unfortunately, in this case, such interest cost people their jobs.
