Unhappy UConn donor; NFL CBA talk; Vick endorsement

January 26, 2011

I'd like my money back

Robert Burton is a major donor to the UConn athletic program and he is not happy. In fact, Burton is asking for his money back. Burton is unhappy with athletic director Jeff Hathaway, and his hiring of new football coach Paul Pasqualoni. Burton is asking for at least $3 million of the more than $7 million he has donated back.

Is UConn under any obligation to return money to Mr. Burton? Think of the ramifications to all universities if UConn were to return any money. Donor to XYZ State is unhappy about football team's 3-9 season and wants the money he donated to the football program back. This would open up the flood gates for every unhappy booster to start running the athletic program. So, UConn won't be returning the money; they may however, oblige Mr. Burton by removing his name from the football building named in his honor. But, unlike the unhappy fast food customer in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, there will be no refund here.

DeMaurice Smith to meet with NFL brass this week

The NFLPA's DeMaurice Smith is set to meet with unnamed NFL officials this week according to ProFootballTalk. These would be the first CBA talks since Thanksgiving.

Vick gets endorsement contract

2010 not only saw Michael Vick revive his football career, but now Vick has an endorsement deal in place for football pads.
