MLBPA CLEARS BORAS; FRANKLIN OUT AT ESPN; LEWIS STAYS A BENGAL
January 5, 2011
Boras loans proper according to union
The Major League Baseball Players' Association has found that super agent Scott Boras did not break any union rules in loaning money to a Dominican prospect. Boras had loaned the money to the prospect in installments over the years 2007-2009. During that time the player had switched agents- from Boras, to another agent, and then back to Boras. It is certainly easy to think that the money was used as an inducement to switch agents, but the union appears to side with Boras.
Another ESPN broadcaster bites the dust
Ron Franklin will join Harold Reynolds and Steve Phillips as a former ESPN announcer. Franklin was fired after remarks he made over the weekend to sideline reporter Jeanne Edwards before the Fiesta Bowl.
Marvin Lewis proves to be the exception in Cincinnati
At this time of year losing football coaches usually get fired! Marvin Lewis, head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals has a losing record over his eight years of leadership of the Bengals. However, Lewis is getting a contract extension and is looking for more influence in the decision making process surrounding the team. Owner Mike Brown (who, by the way, is a Harvard Law graduate) has always had a strong relationship with Lewis, had wanted to extend Lewis' contract last season. At that time Lewis was hesitant because of his lack of influence in the overall decision making process.
