Leavitt recommendation and lawsuit; sale of Hornets; Fehr is back

December 21, 2010

Does former USF football coach Jim Leavitt carry more weight than the Donald?

It was just last season that the University of South Florida fired football coach Jim Leavitt. Leavitt then filed a lawsuit against USF. (see March 16, 2010 SLT blog)

A few weeks back Donald Trump sent a hand written note to University of Miami President Donna Shalala, urging the U to hire former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach. Leach was never really in the running for the job that went to Temple coach Al Golden. Turns out that the recommendation of Jim Leavitt on the behalf of Golden carried a lot of weight.

Trump; not as much pull as Leavitt?

With respect to Leavitt's case against USF, depositions of witnesses just started last week.

NBA purchase of Hornets complete

The NBA board of governors has given its approval of the sale
of the New Orleans Hornets to the league . The NBA will now look to sell the franchise to an owner who would hopefully keep the franchise in New Orleans. David Stern is valuing the franchise at around $300 million.

It's official, Fehr named executive director of NHLPA

After what seemed like years the NHLPA has finally named Donald Fehr  its executive director. Fehr spent 33 years with the MLBPA, and it seems he could not stay out of the action. The action that will happen in hockey will come after the CBA expires after the 2011-12 season.
