Unexpected benefits from a naming rights deal
Unexpected benefits from a naming rights deal
In 2005 TCF Financial Corporation (TCF) entered into an agreement with the University of Minnesota for the naming rights to the school's stadium to be built on campus. The deal was worth $35 million over a 25 year period
to the University of Minnesota. TCF received naming rights to the stadium which is called TCF Bank Stadium.
A naming rights agreement gives the sponsor tremendous visibility during the course of any athletic event in the stadium and much more exposure through television. In this case, TCF has its name in the forefront throughout the Gophers' Big Ten football season.
Now, due to the Metrodome in Minneapolis being out of commission for Monday's Chicago Bears - Minnesota Vikings football game, TCF
will receive a great deal more exposure and publicity than they had
contracted for.
An act of god exclusion didn't eliminate some contractural provision in this instance; instead, the effect of the storm inured to the benefit of a party.
