Leadership?

Konerko negotiation
Being in a leadership role, whether it's as a sports lawyer or, in this case, as an athletic director, requires optimism and a positive outlook for the future. It is important to get your clientele, or in this example your fan base, believing in what you are selling. Take a look at the interview with University of Minnesota athletic director Joel Maturi and see if you are ready to get on board and believe in what Maturi is selling. The interview focuses on Maturi and the recent hiring of new football coach Jerry Kill. Although it may strike you as a joke, the interview is real.

Konerko negotiation
Agent Craig Landis was looking to get around $15 million per year for his client Paul Konerko. Konerko was coming off an exceptional season in 2010, particularly when you consider it was Konerko's final year on his prior contract. Chicago White Sox GM Kenny Williams had said it was a priority for the club to re-sign Konerko. Konerko had expressed a desire to stay in Chicago where he had spent the last 12 seasons. How would the negotiations play out? Landis did not get the $15 million per season he was looking for. However, Landis did keep his client in Chicago like Konerko desired. The White Sox got their man signed after all. What we don't know is what other offers Konerko may have had and how much longer Kenny Williams would have waited before he went in a different direction.
Roger Clemens trial
If you are anxiously awaiting the beginning of the Roger Clemens trial in April, bad news. The trial has been postponed until July.
