Colorado gives coach Dan Hawkins an early exit.
The University of Colorado has fired head football coach Dan Hawkins. Hawkins now joins Tim Brewster, ex-University of Minnesota football coach, in that both were relieved of their duties during the season. According to reports Hawkins will receive close to $2 million as a severance package.

It should be noted that when a head coach loses his job, assistant coaches know that after the season they most likely will be somewhere else as well. In the case of the University of Colorado, only one assistant coach had a multi-year deal. Interestingly enough, Colorado law allows only six employees at a University to have multi-year contracts.

War of words heats up in NBA
With NBA commissioner David Stern recently calling for a drastic reduction in player salaries, the Atlanta Hawks' Maurice Evans is not buying what Stern is selling. Stern has recently suggested cutting player salaries by $750 to 800 million. Evans, who is the the vice-president of the NBAPA executive committee, said of the league, "the game is really at a great place". As the season continues expect more posturing like this; doom and gloom rhetoric from the league, while the players insist that the league is in good shape.
