No transfer waiver for Royce White; Soccer: resumption of talks to avoid Serie A strike

NCAA denies transfer waiver to Iowa State basketball player
The request for a waiver by a former University of Minnesota basketball player, Royce White, who never played a game for the Gophers, was denied by the NCAA . White, who was suspended while at Minnesota, had hoped to become immediately eligible to play for the Cyclones.
Compare this matter to football player Jeremiah Masoli now at Ole Miss. Masoli was suspended from the football team at Oregon for several incidents. However, Masoli had completed all degree requirements at Oregon, and was trying to attend a graduate program at Ole Miss. The program was in Masoli's field of study. After first being denied, the NCAA later allowed Masoli to begin play immediately at Ole Miss.
In the above case of Royce White, we have a quite different set of circumstances; the only commonality being the off the field/court problems for the two athletes.
Iowa State has said they will fully exhaust the appeals process.
Players association and league back to table- may avoid Serie A strike
A November 30 deadline looms, and there are six issues being offered for discussion by Italian Football Federation president Giancarlo Abete, shelving for the time important questions about transfers and out-of-contract players. UPDATE: league president Maurizio Beretta called Abete's proposal"unacceptable," saying the negotiations need to include all of the issues. So, a strike seems more likely.
