NCAA rules on Michigan violations; Red Sox exercise Ortiz' option

November 5, 2010

NCAA rules that there were major violations at Michigan under Rich Rodriguez

The University of Michigan will not appeal the NCAA findings of major violations in the program, and will be happy to move on.

One thing that should be mentioned is that the NCAA declared that Rich Rodriguez did not fail to promote an atmosphere of compliance, but rather this charge was changed to failing to properly oversee the program.

It remains to be seen if Rich Rod will survive at Michigan. One can hardly characterize his first 2½ years at the helm as being off to a good start.

$12.5 million for Big Papi in 2011, not a new multiyear contract

It's that time of year in Baseball when decisions on whom to bring back and whom to let go are made. The Red Sox have decided to bring back David Ortiz, by exercising his option for 2011.
