Patriots' Logan Mankins ends holdout

Logan Mankins, a two time Pro Bowler for the New England
Patriots has ended his holdout and reported to the team.  If
Mankins had waited much longer, November 16 to be exact,
he would have lost a year toward his free agency.  Mankins
was a restricted free agent this past off-season and did not
sign the original tender offer from the Patriots.  Because
the NFL and NFLPA are now in an uncapped season,
additional years of service are required to achieve unrestricted
free agency. In past years a player with four seasons in the league
would be an unrestricted free agent - now under the uncapped year
six years are required.

Here is a quick look at some of the changes in free agency in the
uncapped year.

Looming strike in football

No not the battle that will be coming up between the NFL and NFLPA,
but soccer fans in Italy may have to deal with a possible work stoppage.

Kansas freshman Josh Selby to miss season opener

Josh Selby has been declared academically eligible to play
basketball for Kansas this year, but the NCAA is still investigating
a "relationship" between Selby and Robert Frazier.  Frazier is the
business manager of Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets, and
may have acted as an advisor to Selby.
