The CFL (Canadian Football League) season is once again upon us.  The CFL just wrapped up a short, two game, pre-season, and the regular season will begin within 10 days.

An interesting fact about the CFL CBA is that rookies don't receive pre-season pay.  Once a player has one year under his belt he will then start to get paid for the pre-season.

The CFL player contract still contains an option year that every player must abide by. However, when a player enters his option year, he is free to sign with an NFL team if there is interest from an NFL team. This provision allowing players to jump to the NFL when still under contract to a CFL team came about more than a decade ago when the CFL received an infusion of cash from the NFL.  In exchange the CFL granted the NFL the right to sign CFL players during their option year.

The Chicago White Sox have come to terms with their first round draft pick.  What makes this story interesting is that Chris Sale dropped in the draft because of signability issues, yet the White Sox signed him for the slot price for his spot in the draft.  Read the Baseball America link to get a better understanding of his agent's rationale behind the move.
