The Sports Law Year In Review: the "secret contract"
As we look back on the year, one of the more interesting cases comes from Manhattan, Kansas. Former Kansas State head football coach Ron Prince and his agent Neil Cornrich convinced then Kansas State athletic director Bob Krause to supplement Prince's buyout provision in his contract with another deal for 3.2 million dollars in deferred compensation. It seems no one from the Kansas State legal department was made aware of the deal and the agreement was signed by Krause alone. Several months after Prince was fired Kansas State officials discovered the supplement to Prince's buyout provision. In what became known as the "secret contract" KSU officials quickly moved to have the contract declared null and void. The contract is now in litigation. See the link below when the news of the "secret contract" was just breaking last May.
