Chicago Blackhawks make key long-term deals; Danica Patrick coming to NASCAR when?; WADA issuing new guidelines

December 4, 2009

The Blackhawks are resurgent after being dormant for years, and they're team building continues as they follow the trend of locking up young stars with long-term deals.  For an example of this in Baseball, consider the Kansas City Royal's signing of Zack Greinke to a four-year $38 million dollar contract as discussed in the SLT blog of 11/17/09.  Now the Hawks general manager Stan Bowman has signed defenseman Duncan Keith to a 13-year contract worth $72 million and made five-year deals worth $31.5 million each with forwards Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane.

Danica Patrick coming to NASCAR when?

As Dale Earnhardt, Jr. observes, "It’s going to happen when she wants it to happen.  Whatever happens.  Y’all know who has interest, and she has talked to our company and her and my sister are the only ones who have any dialogue.”

New guidelines for the "athlete biological passport" system have been ratified by the WADA executive committee.

These guidelines recommend a unanimity of agreement by a trio of experts that an athlete's profile shows signs of prohibited substance use prior to any actions against that athlete being taken.  Further, an athlete's explanation for the abnormalities must be found not credible by three experts before any sanctions are recommended.
