Tim Lincecum arbitration speculations; Nashville Predators sue naming rights co.; USTA CEO makes $9,000,000.00
November 27, 2009
Tim Lincecum's possible 23 million dollar arbitration:
Tim Lincecum has just won two consecutive Cy Young awards. "The Freak", as he is sometimes called, is now arbitration eligible.
How do you find comprable players to compare him too? There really aren't any. If you want to go back in baseball history, to just after the 1971 season, the Oakland A's Vida Blue was coming off a remarkable year. As a young pitcher Blue expected a huge raise from owner Charles Finley. The huge raise was not to be. That set the stage for Blue's holdout in 1972. Blue was never the same dominant pitcher again. What would have happened to Blue's career if there had been arbitration back then? We will never know. Unlike Blue in 1972, Lincecum already has three solid seasons under his belt. It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds.

The NHL's Nashville Predators are suing their naming rights company, Sommet Group of Tennessee. The Predator's allege that Sommet Group failed to make payment under their agreement. Sommet Group maintains that payments were witheld because the Predators weren't acting like a partner, and they give as an example an order for thousands of t-shirts, not from Sommet Group, but from a competitor of theirs.
