Law Firms Marketing; The "Secret Contract"; Gillispie Receives $3,000,000.00 Settlement

October 15, 2009

The following are two examples of lawsuits that sometimes follow when a college coach is fired.

Stueve Siegel Hanson LLP (SSH), representing Kansas State University against former head football coach Ron Prince, filed this Petition:

Note the Memorandum that has become know as the "secret contract".

Some law firms are particularly adept at marketing their services.  For example, SSH has selected a link to the mass media that reports on the K.S.U.- Prince controversy.    SSH also links to the K-State news release on the matter.  You may be interested in that link:

Sportslawtalk also finds the original graphic on the homepage at SSH's sophisticated site to be clever marketing.  It represents the maze that is litigation, and a straight path through it as provided by SSH.

$3 million settlement to former Kentucky basketball coach Billy Gillispie:

Gillispie was dismissed earlier this year and sued for breach of contract and fraud in May, seeking at least $6 million. The university countersued.

A Memo of Understanding was also involved here.  Gillispie had no signed contract during his two year stint with the Wildcats, but was working under a memorandum of understanding.  See:
