David Cone Testifies Before Senate In Support Of Justice Sotomayor

This photo, exclusive to SLT, was taken outside the Senate hearing room just after Justice Sotomayor finished her testimony and not long before David Cone, Yale University Professor of Law Kate Stith, and other witnesses gave their testimony in support of her nomination.

Cone delivered a statement supporting Sotomayor's nomination emphasizing Major League Baseball's labor dispute of 1994.  He noted the import of the nominee's decision forcing the disputants to continue bargaining. Quoting Cone, "It can be a good thing to have a judge in district court or a justice on the United States Supreme Court who recognizes that the law cannot always be separated from the realities involved in the disputes being decided."
SLT notes that players, and their agents, keep it real.)

Cone, a Democrat, was one of the 17 pitchers to have thrown a perfect game in the major leagues. Senator Jeff Sessions noted that Senator Jim Bunning, a Republican,
did so as well.  Unlike Cone, Bunning will have a vote.

The Nationals still haven't signed Strasburg as the August 17th deadline approaches:

A minor league pitcher who hit a fan with a ball that he threw into the stands is on trial.  His defense attorney says that he did it to communicate because he doesn't speak English.  No, really, look for yourselves:
