At sportslawtalk.com we're about looking closely at contracts. Here's the K that preceeded the one above:
http://info.detnews.com/2007/ferentz_contract.pdfSome of the key points of the contract deal with responsibility for assistant coaches and control since many problems usually occur with assitant coaches on the recruiting trail. In this case the Head Coach does have responsibility for the control of the assistants, the contract then goes on to state the head coach is "directly responsible separately and collectively to the director of athletics for compliance"
A Question for our readers: If an assistant commits a recruiting violation, let's say a major one, will Ferentz take the blame? Who will bear responsibility?
Also, many programs run into difficulties keeping top assistant coaches and maintaining continuity in a program- notice the paragraphs that allow for additional compensation for assistant coaches based on post season play and a 55% graduation rate.
