Take The Money And Forfeit

May 26, 2009

Back in April we discussed the contract between universities to play football. Over the last few weeks there's been an interesting story developing on the topic.  Delaware State from the MEAC Conference was scheduled to play conference rival North Carolina A&T on October 17 of this year. But, if you are Delaware State, and you have a chance to go to the “Big House” to play in front of over 100,000 people and receive $500,000.00 for it, suddenly your conference game against North Carolina A&T doesn't look so important. Delaware state decided the money was too great to turn down and will forfeit its game against North Carolina A&T for the right to go to Michigan.

We find that it is interesting to see who gets the blame for this - is it Michigan for enticing Delaware State with the promise of money, or Delaware State for succumbing to the allure of the Big House and a big pay day?
